Just a little notice…lots and lots of deliveries! The shop is transforming in to a fantastic Scandi Christmas shop and we love it (also working our way through in the back to find space for all the stunning designs).

I will get in touch with all of you who have ordered stars, candle bridges, Lucia crowns and so on this week…it is a long list which is amazing. Thank you all!

Sadly my phone and I are about to break up, 4.5 years we been a team but now it has given up so I am of course trying to find one with a good camera and affordable so please bear with me…photos are coming soon! But for now pop in to the shop :)

Shop CLOSED Sun 1st November

Morning!

Just a quick note this lovely Sunday morning. Today is our shop change over day! And with this we have decided to keep the shop CLOSED all day. If you walk by you will see us work away inside but it will not be safe for you to have wonder about so we do like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

You are most welcome to the shop on Monday 2nd November at 10am and then it should be a lovely Scandi Christmas shop. Oh this is going to be a good one!

Not everything has arrived yet which is a good thing, we have no space left and it will be nice to keep introducing new things all the time :)  But our stars has arrived and I can not wait to create a bright Advent window today.

It’s beginning to look a lot like…

WE ARE FIVE!

We are FIVE!!!

This is amazing and we are so incredible happy to do this and grateful to all of you who support us and love us. THANK YOU!

Without you we would not have made it this far. Five years ago I was heavily pregnant and we were both super nervous both becoming parents and also opening up our very own shop and I do think it is fair to say we have done well. Now five years later and also another lovely child addition to our family we are still here and also growing stronger.

We love Spektakulär, I love that I can bring a bit from my home country (which I miss sooooooo much) to yours. And that also my passion for happy, inspirational and affordable designs can make a big change for some of you. The comments after we help finding a gift and the photos of how lovely your homes become makes this worth every minute of it. We also like to thank the amazing staff that have been our face outwards Jenny, Lisa, Emma, Åsa, Beata, Joanne, Zuzanna, Alix, Ruth and Anna. You have helped us build up the Spektakulär brand and we are so grateful! Thank you (Tack så mycket)!

As a thank you our lovely customers for your support we will offer 20% off all weekend, so from Friday 18th until Sunday 20th you can enjoy 20% off on everything that is available in the shop.

Hint hint now is a great opportunity to start that dreaded Christmas shopping (which is supposed to be fun).

At the moment at the shop, Autumn designs are starting to arrive and I sit with crazy (but lovely) Christmas orders. This Autumn we will introduce a lot of new brands. We already had a refill of the amazing Våga jewellery, Popomax reflectors, Sagaforms Autumn news and best sellers, Flensted Mobiles and lots more. I am also sitting with a new Pappelina order so if you like to order one now is the time and remember these ones will make someone very happy this Christmas.

Enjoy

Charlotte & Richard

Check us out…

Come on in…

We have finally gone crazy and let Google do a virtual tour of the shop. Great opportunity to do it after our repaint and while the shop is looking nice and tidy (just you wait until Christmas, you do know it is almost impossible to move around here then).

Thanks to Jeremy Scott the shop is now available as a see inside on google, we also done an extra tab on our Facebook page so check it out. Jeremy also took some really lovely photos and I am pleased with the result, check it out here.

As you know we are a super tiny shop and we try very hard to vary the stock as well as keep it seasonal. So in a few weeks all these bright summer colours will be replaced with lots of cozy candles and welcoming blankets.

This weekend Richard and I are off to London to visit Home and Top Drawer and chat with all our lovely UK suppliers who do a lot of hard work for us. Having a couple of evenings without children might give us a few ideas for our five year anniversary. Because can you believe it, next Friday the 18th September,we are delighted to announce that we (Spektakular) is five!!! You are all so amazing and wonderful who support us a tiny little Scandinavian shop in Edinburgh, we do adore you all and the kind words you give us when you come in through those doors for a little chat is heart warming.

Visit Scotland (family holiday)

A few weeks ago we took a little family holiday! Something we planned and looked forward since a family gathering around New Year. Instead of going abroad skiing with Richard’s family (like we used to) we decided to go somewhere local and Scotland is so fantastically beautiful and we do not need to travel far to experience stunning scenery and lots of fresh air. Our destination was just outside Aviemore, this is a part of Scotland I actually know (sadly I have never been north of Inverness nor the West Coast…yet). Together with Richard’s parents, sister with family and us, we rented the North Wing of Alvie Estate.

North Wing

Wow what a wonderful location and we were so incredible lucky with the weather as well, no rain or wind, just a bit chilly but hey that was ok because the sun made up for it. The children were out most of days exploring the grounds. I did not do that much exploring but I really did not mind. Coffee in the sun at a place like this, what more could you ask for (Mr Darcy in the little lake, yes I must admit that did cross my mind)!!!Alive House

So not a lot of activities booked (tons on offer and the Zip Wire looked soooooo cool), but we chilled and spent time together, inhaled a lot of food and drinks. For me this was a great break. Since the girls got so much attention I could sit back and just deal with them when I needed to do the proper mum bits (not that much) which is an ideal holiday. Of course we did not just stayed here for three days (I would really not had minded at all though).

Family friends came for a visit and the kids had so much fun, here chilling with a little FIKA break.

The sun came out and we enjoyed spending half a day in the garden, trusty grandparents had brought lots of garden activities items for us to play with. But it was lots of fun running up and rolling down the hills in the garden (ohh I really am not sure what you call the artificial steps they had created in the garden, but they were very fun to play on).

Some walked and some cycled around Loch an Eilein, stopped for a little picnic and threw pinecones in the river, very exciting for a two year old.

Before we headed back to Edinburgh we visited the Highland Wildlife Park and it was a really enjoyable experience. For Christmas we were given a family gift, a year membership at the Edinburgh Zoo and the wildlife park is included in the membership so an easy choice for us and we did enjoy it. But it was windy and girls were a bit grumpy (wait maybe that was me), even so it is nice to have done it and the Polar Bears were beautiful!!!

Next holiday for us is Sweden, not really a holiday for me since I am going home, just me and the girls for a couple of weeks and my family is NOT like Richard’s, not the I-take-the-kids-you-rest/enjoy-yourself kind of family. But it is a great opportunity for me to give the girls Swedish non-stop for four weeks and for me to spend time with my family and friends. I do know our Scottish family is looking to do the Enchanted Forest in the Autumn. which will be great fun and I do love Pitlochry so will enjoy a visit there to.

Anyway, of course I can recommend Alive, beautiful house, beautiful scenery, beautiful locations and tons of activities to do.

Have fun

Oh wow

Oh wow it is heart-warming and amazing when someone recommends you and spread the word about us. Thank you Alex at WOW247.

http://www.wow247.co.uk/blog/2015/01/29/best-independent-boutiques-edinburgh/

This is a lovely list of independent boutiques in Edinburgh and we are included in the top ten. Us a tiny tiny shop, but hey it is true…we are all in for Scandinavian designs! And we do really work hard on being a bit different, and as you can tell when you enter the shop, we also love colours and happy designs. Scandinavian designs is not only about expensive furniture and clean lines, it is for me more about personality, colour and functional designs. We Swedes are very house proud hence why seasonal designs is so important, but for me it is not about showing of my expensive furniture (maybe because I don’t have any) it is more personal and more about making your home comfortable and welcoming. Your home should be where you close the door behind you, kick of your shoes and just breath, leave the worlds problems outside and just relax.

And I hope that we kind of do that, making your home a little bit more personal by being happy, different and stylish and yes of course Scandinavian because that I am and a very proud one too.

The girls, Richard and myself are delighted that you have found us and thank you for being part of our success. We will continue to hopefully make a lot of people very happy with cheerful gifts and treats for their homes.

Thank you

Klippan throws and blankets

Hello cold people

Yes I shall order more blankets and throws from Swedish Klippan! Have had quite a few people in during the weekend asking if we will get more in since it is rather cold outside and we have hardly any left in the shop. Do have a brows through their catalogues on their website and let me know if you like to order one for yourself. Give us a ring 0131 629 0941 or email me at hello@spektakular.co.uk for prices. Or why not just pop in to the shop and have a little chat and see what we have left. blankets

We do love our blankets, warm, cosy and welcoming!

Enjoy

January, time to get cosy!

So after two days in the shop I have changed it around and managed to squeeze in what we had left of Christmas in a few shelves (will get packed up next week). Also left a massive to do list for Zuzanna (she was impressed…or not). We still have a little sale on so why not pop in and have a brows.

Yesterday I packed up our Christmas window display and created a winter display. Warm blues and purples colours, cosy cushions and blanket. Also this stunning silence print by One Must Dashartprint_shhilence_1200

Love to fill up my home with happy prints. It is just so welcoming.

This time of year I am all about relaxing, reading books and looking at that knitting of mine thinking, yeah I shall create a stunning jumper (one day, one day)! Also this is the time of year I like to organize our home, well I like the idea. Go through cupboards and the girls clothing, writing dinner list and get back in to thinking healthy. It is also time of the year when we do a stock take at the shop, sorting all the paperwork and thinking ahead regarding the shop. There are a few ideas we will try to get down on paper during January, some might even be worth following up. It is also time for the big fairs, and the Spring/Summer catalogues has already arrived and a few more is on it way, so I have plenty of ideas. Think I also need to order a few more throws because we hardly have any left and there is still a couple of cold months ahead of us and with this storm on its way I am glad I have my own woolly throws here at home.

Right Lovisa is having a little nap and Stina and I will have a look at one of her crafting Christmas gifts. This should be fun! I think I need to make myself some coffee first!

Have a great day

Gott Nytt År – Happy New Year

We wish you all a fantastic 2015

spectra

Now is the time for me to reflect on 2014, but somehow I am not sure I am completely done yet, you know sitting down thinking it through properly, will I ever?

But what I do know is that Spektakulär has had a amazing year, we sadly sad good bye to some brilliant staff but we also welcomed in Ruth to join and we sure love having her in the shop. So Zuzanna, Ruth and myself, well it looks like we will be the ones that will look after you in 2015 as well! We have seen so many new and returning customers in the shop and we love it. I personally love the chat, happy comments and how friendly you all are. Owning a small independent shop sure give you so much back, and no I am not talking about money, if I did I am not sure we would still be around. I love being amongst the designs and products in the shop, I love going home and explore my favourite shops in Sweden. Meeting my suppliers and explore new designs. I enjoy the chats with other shop owners and we all work together, give ideas and tips, both here in the UK and in Sweden. But most of all I enjoy being in the shop, you our customers do brighten up our days with your sweet comments. And that our shop is a bit different, well that means we got it right. I do try my best to find new and exciting designs. We do enjoy colour and also good functional designs that brings a smile to your face.

2015 we welcome you and hope you bring happiness and joy to all of us. Let’s make it our year! Our plans for Spektakular is that we will give the shop a little love in January, paint and a proper clean. We will sort out or gift vouchers, it is not that hard just on our to do list which never seem to get any shorter. The webshop, yes that is my project and I will get going in January as soon as we have packed away Christmas, done a little stock take and then I just need to get in to the mood. Any new designs? Oh yes! Of course! I have a long list and we will introduce quite a few new brands to the shop this Spring.

Thank you all for your lovely comments and thank you for your support, supporting local shops this year has been big and we can tell. Please keep supporting your local butchers, book shops, coffee shops and small independent gift shops just like ours. Thank you and we all hope to see you in 2015.

Gott Nytt År
