We are off to beautiful East Linton and their annual Christmas Market. Car is full of Christmas decorations, long johns are on and a flask of hot coffee is being made!
This is our first time and we are really really excited! It will be cold but I think we wont feel it since I am pretty sure it will be busy busy! Please do come and join us from 4 pm.
Once again we will be at the Edinburgh Academy Christmas Fair…hooray! Our third year and this year we are back at Assembly Room which is such a lovely bright space. Even though I have not even started to prepare for the fair or the layout I feel pretty relaxed. Maybe it is the stress at the shop at the moment or the sleepless night with a teething baby that makes me not to think about this event too much…I don’t know!
I am pretty sure it will work out just fine, I have a list what needs to be done (sometimes I am glad Richard force me to use google docs and create all these lists) I have an idea in my head and I have amazing staff who will give me a hand if I need it. Having massive I mean MASSIVE pallets arrive almost every day at the moment make the shop really full of gifts and treats so I have so much to choose from to bring with me to the Academy. You who know the shop you know how tiny it is and I am just as amazed as you are that we manage to show everything off.
Anyway I really hope that if you are visiting the Academy this Saturday please do come by the stall and say hi! It is a great fair and you can differently find some gifts and treats.
Yesterday a large pallet from a new brand to us, Danish Bovictus arrived! Beautiful new designs such as kitchen ware, candles, lanterns and bird feeders arrived! And tomorrow…oh fingers crossed…the stunning and so elegant Danish Ester & Erik candles will arrive as well as a massive delivery with Pluto Produkter, Färg & Form, Superliving and oh I just need to head over and give Zuzanna a hand I think. Today a small box arrived and by the end of the day when we had cleared the back shop we open it and oh man I wished I had open it first. beautiful beautiful Almedahl’s amazing retro designs. Oh these are pure happiness to me! These designs were made in the Sweden in 50s’ and my grandmother’s had these, so memories at the best. I better get some of these wonderful tea towels and perhaps create some memories from my own daughters.
Anyway I have the PC tonight and Richard is trying to get Lovisa to sleep (I can tell it is not going so well), so I better crack on:)
Blanca please pop in to collect your prize! I am sure these will make a dull day cozy!
We would like to say thank you for the wonderful response to this competition and also say thank you for every one who signed up for the newsletter as well. I shall do my best to create a news letter now and then. It is on my (massive) to do list:)
Think we will do this kind of competition again! But please do like us on facebook as well for more frequent updates.
Halloween is not really a Scandinavian tradition but I must admit I enjoy the excitement my three year old shows. We will carving our pumpkin today! She is off to a Halloween Disco tonight so I think she will be pretty happy when she gets home.
I am excited too but for other reasons! Tonight is the night we will introduce Christmas! The shop will transform and we are all very excited. Åsa and Zuzanna is there preparing as much as they can before the rest will drop in one by one! My mum is over from Sweden and we have baked soft gingerbread cake to get into the Christmas mood!!!
Since we will be in the shop we will lit pumpkins outside the shop and if you are out with your little ones then do come along, we would love to see your costumes. We do have a bucket of sweets:-)
Right I am off, neighbor will collect Stina in 20 min and then we are heading over! Oh exciting! Have a sneak peak through the window tonight if you are out and about, if not pop in over the weekend. The shop will be way different than today!
Wonderful time of the year! Delivery after delivery with so many new designs! Beautiful seasonal designs is filling up the shop and then our back shop is starting to fill up with Christmas! We have decided to wait until November before we transform the shop into Christmas, lets enjoy Autumn first!!!
But if you can not wait until November why not join us at Swedish Hemma for a little sneak peak! On Thursday 24th October from 5.30pm I will be at Hemma with a little pop-up shop! I am looking forward to this! Pop-up shops are a great way to meet new wonderful people and to talk about Scandinavian design and I enjoy it!
The festive season will kick off for us soon and I am pleased to say this year have brought in even more stars and Santa’s. More Scandinavian Christmas designs mixed with wonderful gifts and treats.
It is time for a new Pappelina order! 14th of October is the date! So for all you that is thinking about it! Now is the time to measure that space that is in need of something special…the amazing Pappelina plastic rug!
I can not help myself, so here we go again (sorry for my ranting)!!! I love this brand! I love my rug and if I could I would happily fill up my whole house with these rugs. Our hallway, under our big dining table, our bathroom, the girls room, the office! But for now one room at the time, and we started with a long colourful Lilo in Azure blue for our little kitchen!
Our kitchen rug, first of all we have black slate tiles so it for sure brightens the room up, second it hides all the crumbs, I am a rather messy baker and it is just super easy to hoover up any sugar, flour or anything that I manage to spill on it. Just hoover, mop, smaller ones goes in the washing machine or like I do I pop mine in the bathtub, rinse it and if any big stains happens to been created I just use a soft sponge and rub very gently. I just use washing up detergent to get it cleaned. When I happen to mop the kitchen floor I just want to hurry it to dry so I can put the rug back on it, a bit silly…I know!
I do have customers who have informed me (since I do not have any pets myself) that they are great for animals! “Not even the dog can break it”.
Vera One Large
So I think I have done enough of my ranting for this time! Why not pop in to the shop and have a feel! We are very happy to give you a hand with colours, designs, sizes and prices!
Pappelina is a Swedish brand based in the county of Dalarna. All the rugs are made in Sweden and made in a very delicate procedure. Please do read more about it on their website, click here. Please do notice that after our order has been placed, the rugs will be made which means delivery to us can take up to six weeks which might sound long but in fact you will get a quality rug that is hard wearing and functional which should last you many years of happiness:)
Please do browse their website for a little bit of eye candy:) Enjoy!

A relatively new holiday in Sweden, in 2005 it bacame a public holiday. As a emigrant I have not really celebrated this day but I do think it is nice with a National day.
As you already know I miss my country, but I must admit is more likely the romantic image of Sweden mixed with childhood memories. The smell of early summer mornings, the sound of riding an old bike on a dirt road and small things like this. But I have also fallen in love with Scotland and am happy with a bit of both worlds in my life.
Anyway let’s celebrate today with a little treat in the shop. Just simply spend over £25 and you will get one of these extremely popular MOZ keyrings for free, colour of your choice!
It is rather lovely to wake up in the morning when the sun is shinning and it is dry! More energy and more inspiration! Am feeling a bit creative today and got some ideas for the shop to do this Spring.
Managed to plant a few Primroses in the shop pots today, think they should survive for a few months…
Because it was such a nice morning we somehow left the house early, well earlier than normal and went to Luca’s for a lovely ice-cream before I open the shop. Have seen quite a few walk by today which makes me happy, they are great and it is so nice to have them just around the corner.
Hopefully the rest of the week will be just as lovely as today:)
