Deliveries and new brand

A couple of weeks ago Richard and I made a last minute decision to head down to London to the Home and Top Drawer trade fairs. First time we were both away from Stina for a night which was with mixed feelings, but she was great with her grandparents so it was all fine. Great time for me and Richard to actually spend a little time alone, go out for a nice meal and have a good chat about other things than Stina and Spektakulär. However we were there for a trade fair so it was a lot of Spektakulär talk, and anyone who has children will always think about them so I guess there was some Stina talk as well:)

Scandinavian design is really on the trend right now and many of our suppliers where at these two fairs, so great to catch up and also great to meet and greet people I have only spoken to on the phone or emailed. We caught up with Sagaform, Sea Glasbruk, QDO, Pappelina, ISAK, Teddykompaniet, Allihopa and of course we saw lots of new brands which we are slowly introducing to the shop. Of course I could not walk by Marimekko or Ittala without having a look…one day!

First up to arrive this Spring is Almedahls. This beautiful textile company was  founded in 1846 in Gothenburg. Strong patterns and designs in quality textile.  Am excited to introduce tea towels with vintage prints from the 50’s. Timeless classics,  I have seen these when growing up in Sweden. If you like the Scandinavian Retro feel, I am sure you wont be disappointed. These tea towels are in 55% Linen & 45% Cotton, a beautiful gift to your home.

These are just a few of the designs that will arrive this week, as well as a few beautiful birch trays.

But not only new brands will arrive. Linum arrived on Friday with Napkins, Aprons, Cushions, Rugs and lots more beautiful designs, the shop is looking nice and fresh:)

See you in the shop

Swedish Lucia Celebration…Bigger than ever!

According to the Guardian, in a article about Swedish Christmas celebrations, the hunger for Scandinavian Christmas traditions is on trend… as a small Scandinavian shop we can tell as well. Our Swedish and Danish candles and Christmas decorations are almost all gone and it is only early December.

Today is an excellent opportunity to take part in the Swedish traditional Lucia celebration at Wardie Parish Church, click here for more details. I know it will be a lovely ceremony and afterwards traditional “Lussekatter” Saffron buns and coffee.

So today since it is 1st of Advent and we will light up our Advent stars and candle-bridges and the first candle in my advent candle holder. My dad and his wife is over from Sweden, they brought gingerbread dough (I know you can buy some from IKEA but it is not the same, and making my own…hmmm time is running low) we will bake our snaps and have a glass of mulled wine. The smells and tastes will be the proper start for our Christmas and am excited to make the shop look more like Christmas as well. Richard’s parents are in town as well so I think it might be a little visit to the markets in town today as well.

Dad brought lots of yummy food with them for us. Now these days after opening up the shop we stay in Scotland for the holidays and have started to create our own traditions. I am not ready to give up any kind of Swedish celebrations and replace them with a UK one…no no! So on Christmas Eve, after we close the shop I head home and we have our Swedish Christmas, including the lovely Jansson’s temptation, herring (sill) and this year even lovely traditional Christmas Ham and dad brought “Vortbrod” a special Christmas bread. I felt true happiness when I saw what they had brought.  Amazing what food and memories can do:) Then on Christmas Day morning we head over to Glasgow this year and will celebrate with Richard’s family. So a turkey dinner is to expect which is great as well. But I am afraid to say it wont beat a Swedish Christmas Buffet table so called “julbord”.

Have a great 1st Advent, I am so pleased it is such a beautiful day.

Edinburgh Academy Christmas Fair 2012

Am very excited to be at this years Christmas Fair at Edinburgh Academy this coming Saturday. Am packing lovely Scandinavian Christmas gifts and treats.

This will be our second time and the layout has changed a little since last year, which I think will be fantastic. Am really looking forward to the food market, think this is where I will find some of my gifts and perhaps even some treats. Also looked through the list of stallholders and I think it will be absolutely amazing. Lisa and I will be there from 10.30 – 16.00 so do pop by and say hello.

Spektakulär out and about…

It is a busy time of the year and Spektakulär has signed up for a few events here and there and of course we would like to let you know where we will be, who knows maybe near by you:)

26th November: To all our Glasgow friends you will find us at Calderwood Primary in Glasgow. This will be our fourth time and it will be great. Even more Scandinavian looking Christmas goodies.

1st December: Edinburgh Academy Christmas Fair. This year it will be a one day event and it will be worth it, great stall holders and a big food hall so I think I will find quite a few of my Christmas gifts here.

13th December: Perfect evening to pop in to our “pop up” shop and celebrate Lucia at Sofi’s Bar in Leith. We will be there from 18.00 but I suggest you hang about with a glass of mulled wine to sing along with Lucia and her ladies at 20.00. It will be a great evening!

We have a few evening events booked at the shop, but there are still some left so do pop in and book you evening. Perfect opportunity to catch up with your friends, a glass of wine, lovely Bia Bistrot nibbles and best of all get your Christmas shopping done.
