Swedish Sagaform is one of our main brands and it is a really trendy and popular brand and we understand why! They are well know for their joyful designs for your home. Broste Copehagen Delivery!

Love deliveries! It is like Christmas every time! And Spring time is often full of colourful designs to bring happiness after a dull winter.

Latest delivery to arrive was Broste Copenhagen! Broste is a brand we normally stock once a year, just before Christmas since their Christmas decorations are so lovely and Scandinavian, but this time we just loved their Spring collection with happy colours so we could not resist a little order. And happy we did, the lovely Rob candle holders are sure proving popular as well as the tea towels, cushion covers and napkins.

I think the Drop Cushion cover in turquoise is my favorite. Reminds me a lot of my own home before I moved to the UK a few years back. So even though my life have changed a lot during these last eight years my taste seem to have stayed a little which is actually a lot of mixed feelings! Very strange to describe since it suddenly got very emotional…gets a bit homesick some times and the Olympics as well now with the Swedish men going for the gold in the Ice Hockey! Heja Sverige!!!

Anyway shall now enjoy the afternoon in the shop, looks like a quiet day since it is actually raining sideways! But it gives me a little time to get a little bit organised and perhaps prepare an order or two for more Spring deliveries.

Happy Sunday!

What a lovely day, the sun is shining and people are smiling! It has been an amazing day at the shop and it is so true: there is nothing more rewarding than fantastic customers that are so positive towards you. It sure makes me feel like what we are doing is right! And it gives me tons of energy and the urge to get back to the shop sooner. Well Lovisa will start nursery next week (yes of course I have very mixed feelings) which should give me more time to focus on the shop and of course the very longed for webshop.

The shop is starting to fill up with Spring designs and Spring flowers such as Daffodils, oh flowers sure makes me happy. I think I need to keep going with the flowers, it does make people smile!

Am looking forward to my walk home this afternoon, fresh air and sun, but first a little coffee and cake that Zuzanna left for me in the fridge:) The girls spoil me:)

Pappelina delivery

A wonderful Pappelina delivery is due in tomorrow and I am so excited. Pappelina has created some beautiful new designs and I am excited to see your reactions. This order grew a bit bigger than first planned but we just could not resist. And now I am quite glad we placed a large order since we have sold quite a few in the last couple of weeks and the shop looks rather empty.

I am so pleased to see how the interest and the love have grown for these amazing plastic rugs. Pappelina is created by talented Lina Rickardsson, who brought back the plastic rugs from the 40’s and 50’s Sweden into the 21st century with clever and modern designs. Why plastic? It is an excellent idea, plastic rugs are hard wearing, easy to clean and believe it or not they are very soft under foot. They are perfect for hallway, kitchen, bathroom, playroom, conservatory or why not under your dining table. I was surprised how lovely they made my home look, now I can not get enough of them, non-slip and so easy to clean (they seem to hide any crumbs).

Since we are such a small shop we obviously can not stock all designs and sizes so we do place orders with Pappelina regularly. However once a order is placed it can take up to six weeks until delivery since the rugs are being made after our order. It is a very delicate procedure to create these amazing long lasting products which Pappelina rightly take great pride in.

Klippan Blankets

This time a year I really enjoy reading! It is dark early in the evening, and I just love getting cozy under a blanket, a cup of tea and a good book! Unfortunately it has not been as many cozy moments this winter (well it is not over yet). My girls even though they sleep alright the little one just wont settle in the evening and when she does I am out! So tired and I just have to sit in the sofa and stare at the TV. Which is I must admit rather sad! Why watch TV when you can read a good book?!

Anyway enough about me not reading as much as I liked! Before Christmas we introduced new blankets by Swedish Klippan. Klippan is a family run company based in Skåne, South Sweden. This is a well known brand in Sweden with truly amazing quality designs. And we love them. Think all of us in the shop have eyed up a blanket or two and my personal favorite is the Moose blanket (which we sold pretty fast, more will be ordered).

And I love Vilda… It sure does remind me of a “Pippi” Jumper. Have a few of those!

We can easily order Klippan blankets and they are pretty popular (especially this time a year), so do pop in and have a feel! The softest cotton and eco lambswool mixed with beautiful colours and designs….true happiness!

HOME and Top Drawer London 2014

After a weekend in London I am full of inspiration! Enjoy the buzz of London (Richard and I did meet here years ago) but I love Edinburgh. Beautiful, fresh air and not too big. The city of London never seem to end! Home it takes 15 minutes in the car and we can see water, hills or even sheep. Perfect for a girl who grew up on the countryside.

Anyway we took a couple of days off, left the girls with the grandparents (did miss them a lot) and headed south to London and trade fairs. Fresh designs from Sagaform, Pappelina, Linum, Broste Copenhagen and lots more. And we spoke to so many amazing designers and suppliers. Unfortunately some stands still have a no photography policy so not many photos. Stupid if I may say so!!! As a buyer we see so much, so many brands and so much new ideas. And in a couple of days when I will go through all this information that we gathered then photos is a fantastic way to jog your memory. Plus the exhibitors so often create great eye catching collections which I might not remember and like to use in the shop. I guess it is all about protecting your designs but no I hardly ever place orders at the fairs and few people do now these days so please designers let us take photos…

Visited a lot of great brands, such as Allihopa, Lagom Designs, Teddy Kompaniet, Sagaform, QDO, Broste, Pappelina. And of course we visited stunning Ittala and Marimekko. Can not go to the fair and not visit these stunning brands. I do know that many of you like us to stock them, not yet I am afraid.

I did place an order at Pappelina, just loved all the new colours and designs. After Christmas we have seen a huge interest in the rugs and orders have been placed. Right new year resolutions! Well as always got a few I know for sure wont happen so I normally try not to make any plans, just go with the flow! However this year…oh I really really hope that we can get our webshop up and running! Our girls are a bit bigger and starting to sleep better. And it is getting lighter outside so hopefully a little bit more energy as well (it is needed)!

Okay I have a little time for myself (little one is asleep) so shall sit down with a cup of coffee and look through all the information that we gathered at the fair. It will be a colourful Spring at Spektakulär.

Christmas time

Hooray…no more alarms for us. Richard has taken time off work, Stina’s nursery is closed for two weeks and our lovely girls are looking after the shop for us. However the little human alarm is wide awake. Was happily scratching me in the face until I woke up.
But to be honest I enjoy this. She sits on the floor playing with her toys, I have my essential coffee and the news are on. The Christmas tree is lit and my Advent stars are making me feel cozy and happy, amazing what a few lights can do.

You might think that as a Swede owning a shop like Spektakulär my Christmas tree should be super stylish…you could not be more wrong. We got such a tacky tree but we love it. I bought it for nothing three years ago. Stina was a tiny baby, shop was brand new, our first Christmas which was a new experience and that snow…oh nightmare! Edinburgh council can not handle snow!!! Anyway I bought this tree and it was fine then and during the years we grown to love it. Did think that maybe this year we would invest in a real tree, Stina is big enough and Lovisa is young enough but Richard said: No I enjoy this tree…

Stina helped me hang the decorations and I try to spread them out but they magically goes back.

Today Stina and I will spend a little quality time together. Think we will go into town and visit the Christmas market. Do a little Christmas shopping and hopefully enjoy a cup of hot chocolate somewhere. Have a lovely Friday!!!

East Linton Christmas Market

We are off to beautiful East Linton and their annual Christmas Market. Car is full of Christmas decorations, long johns are on and a flask of hot coffee is being made!

This is our first time and we are really really excited! It will be cold but I think we wont feel it since I am pretty sure it will be busy busy! Please do come and join us from 4 pm.

Edinburgh Academy Christmas Fair and new deliveries…

Once again we will be at the Edinburgh Academy Christmas Fair…hooray! Our third year and this year we are back at Assembly Room which is such a lovely bright space. Even though I have not even started to prepare for the fair or the layout I feel pretty relaxed. Maybe it is the stress at the shop at the moment or the sleepless night with a teething baby that makes me not to think about this event too much…I don’t know!

I am pretty sure it will work out just fine, I have a list what needs to be done (sometimes I am glad Richard force me to use google docs and create all these lists) I have an idea in my head and I have amazing staff who will give me a hand if I need it. Having massive I mean MASSIVE pallets arrive almost every day at the moment make the shop really full of gifts and treats so I have so much to choose from to bring with me to the Academy. You who know the shop you know how tiny it is and I am just as amazed as you are that we manage to show everything off.

Anyway I really hope that if you are visiting the Academy this Saturday please do come by the stall and say hi! It is a great fair and you can differently find some gifts and treats.

Yesterday a large pallet from a new brand to us, Danish Bovictus arrived! Beautiful new designs such as kitchen ware,candles, lanterns and bird feeders arrived! And tomorrow…oh fingers crossed…the stunning and so elegant Danish Ester & Erik candles will arrive as well as a massive delivery with Pluto Produkter, Färg & Form, Superliving and oh I just need to head over and give Zuzanna a hand I think. Today a small box arrived and by the end of the day when we had cleared the back shop we open it and oh man I wished I had open it first. beautiful beautiful Almedahl’s amazing retro designs. Oh these are pure happiness to me! These designs were made in the Sweden in 50s’ and my grandmother’s had these, so memories at the best. I better get some of these wonderful tea towels and perhaps create some memories from my own daughters.
